Because I love sharing the joy of flowers with those around me, I am giving away my extra tubers to new and veteran gardeners.

I have recently updated my blog post on spring dahlia tuber care. Check it out for some great tips.

Sorry, but this form is now closed.

Dahlia Tuber Pick Up RSVP

Specific tuber availability is not guaranteed. All tubers have visible "eyes" and are ready to grow. Depending on interest, I may need to limit the number of tubers per individual.

A potting station will be provided if you would like to start your Dahlias indoors for a few weeks to give them a head start. I will have potting soil, etc. Please bring 5" or so nursery pots for each tuber you wish to grow.

Dahlia Basics

Dahlias love lots of sunshine (at least 6-8 hours/day of full sun) and produce non-stop blooms late summer until frost. They do best planted when the soil is around 60 degrees, which in Minnesota is typically late May. Dahlias like a bit of room, about 18-24" between plants. If they are in a bed with shorter plants, they may be a bit closer together as long as they get good airflow and plenty of sunshine. Dalias come in many sizes, shapes, heights, and colors. They are an amazing flower.

My Tubers

Most of my dahlia tubers were purchased from small flower growers in 2023 & 2024. I have learned that dahlia tubers from overseas tend to have more disease issues, so I now only purchase tubers from reputable farms in the US and Canada. I am careful to only keep tubers from plants that are very healthy. If I have any doubts, I toss the plant. I cannot guarantee my tubers will produce perfect plants. Several tubers I purchased from excellent flower farmers in 2023 did not thrive. This is common and expected that a small percent will not do well for any number of reasons.
